How Is Rose Water Made?
In the general process, fresh aromatic rose petals meet water and heat in a still; vapour is cooled and collected, producing an aromatic water phase while rose oil may be separated. Exact equipment, ratios and controls vary by producer and batch.
1. Harvest and handling
Petal condition and the time between harvest and processing can affect the aromatic material entering distillation. These are production variables, not marketing decoration.
2. Distillation and separation
Heat carries volatile aromatic compounds into vapour. Cooling returns that vapour to liquid, after which the water and oil fractions can be handled according to the producer's process.
3. Finished-product verification
A cosmetic formula may contain rose water alongside other ingredients. Buyers should read the ingredient list and current specification instead of assuming that every bottle labelled rose water is compositionally identical.
